‍Waar kan 2022 voor Graindelavoix beter starten dan in Muziekcentrum De Bijloke, residentieplek van het gezelschap?Vanaf 17 januari tem 26 februari 2022 kan je in het kabinet terecht voor de expo TIME REGAINED, de "Warburg Atlas” voor (oude) muziek die Björn Schmelzer samen met Margarida Garcia opzette.De expo was voordien al te zien in Nederland en Polen en nu voor het eerst in België.Garcia en Schmelzer brengen de ondergrondse poetica van Graindelavoix aan de oppervlakte aan de hand van 10 (werk)tafels die samen een haast oneindige Atlas vormen. De tafels bevatten meer dan 1500 afbeeldingen geordend volgens thema’s als Ornament & Plasticity, Cathedralists, Pneumatics, Diagrammatics, Allure & Dance, Lament, Musica Reservata, Politics of Polyphony, Survival & Revival...
‍LEZING TIME REGAINED - A WARBURG ATLAS

‍Op maandag 17 januari om 19u30 vertelt Björn Schmelzer tijdens een lezing in het Bijloke Café hoe TIME REGAINED tot stand kwam, waarom het een poëtica van Graindelavoix is en hoe de bezoeker met de Atlas aan de slag kan gaan.Verwacht geen droge muziekgeschiedenis maar eerder een afdaling in de ondergrond van ideeën van Aby Warburg, Marcel Proust en Walter Benjamin en wat die te maken hebben met de uitvoeringspraktijk van Graindelavoix.

‍Op vrijdag 21 januari sluit Graindelavoix de expo Helden in Harnas af in de Antwerpse Erfgoedbibliotheek met delen uit de Orlando Furioso van Jacquet de Berchem (1505 in Berchem - 1567 in Monopoli, Italië) Over de jeugdjaren van Jacquet de Berchem is niets geweten. Hij maakte vooral carrière in Italië en hoewel nu vergeten, was hij tot in de barok beroemd, zo beroemd zelfs dat Caravaggio zijn partituren schilderde op verschillende van zijn werken.Hij trouwde met de Italiaanse adellijke dame Giustina de Simeonibus en vestigde zich in het visserstadje Monopoli bij Bari in Apulië. De stanze of verzen uit de Orlando Furioso, een mini-opera avant-la-lettre, werden in 1561 in Venetië uitgegeven. Berchem noemde ze Capriccio’s en gebruikte daarmee deze term voor het eerst in de muziek.Ze houden het midden tussen het serieuze madrigaal en de meer populaire cantastorie, de epische manier om ottava rima stanze te declameren. Graindelavoix voert een selectie van deze bijna nooit uitgevoerde werken uit. En daarmee keert Jacquet de Berchem voor even terug naar zijn geboorteplek, met de ridderverhalen die hem vooral in Italië beroemd zouden maken.

‍No place better to inaugurate 2022 than Music Center De Bijloke in Ghent, artistic residency of Graindelavoix!From 17 January until 26 February 2022, the Cabinet accommodates the exhibition TIME REGAINED, a "Warburg Atlas" for (early) music, created by Björn Schmelzer together with Margarida Garcia.Previously shown in the Netherlands and Poland, TIME REGAINED is now for the first time in Belgium. Garcia and Schmelzer bring Graindelavoix's underground poetics to the surface via ten (work) tables providing an almost infinite Atlas. The tables contain more than 1500 images arranged according to themes as Ornament & Plasticity, Cathedralists, Pneumatics, Diagrammatics, Allure & Dance, Lament, Musica Reservata, Politics of Polyphony, Survival & Revival…
LECTURE TIME REGAINED - A WARBURG ATLAS

‍Björn Schmelzer opens the exhibition with a lecture in Bijloke Café on Monday 17 January at 7.30 pm, explaining how TIME REGAINED came about, why it embodies the poetics of Graindelavoix and how the visitor can get started with the Atlas. Don't expect a dry music history lesson, but rather a descent into an underground network of ideas of Aby Warburg, Marcel Proust and Walter Benjamin and how they are related to Graindelavoix' performance practice of the past and its afterwardsness .

‍For the Finissage of the expo Helden in Harnas in the Antwerp Heritage Library, a concert by Graindelavoix will highlight the Orlando Furioso by Jacquet de Berchem (1505 in Berchem - 1567 in Monopoli, Italy).
Born in Berchem (near Antwerp), De Berchem made his career mainly in Italy and though now forgotten, he was famous right up to the Baroque period, so famous that Caravaggio painted his scores on several of his works. He married the Italian noblewoman Giustina de Simeonibus and settled in the fishing town of Monopoli near Bari in Apulia. The stanze or verses from the Orlando Furioso, a mini-opera avant-la-lettre, were published in Venice in 1561. Berchem called them Capriccios and used this term for the first time in music. They are somewhere between the serious madrigal and the more popular cantastorie, the epic declamation of ottava rima stanze. Graindelavoix performs a selection of these rarely executed works. And so, Jacquet de Berchem returns for a brief moment to his birthplace, accompanied by the knightly stories that would make him famous, especially in Italy.
